In my experimentation with the revenue generating potential of Google Adsense vs. Yahoo Publishing Network, I have created a YPN ads extension for the wonderful Lussumo Vanilla Forum. If you haven’t seen this software in action yet, check out the Plogger forum. The code is amazing, and the usability of the forum itself is smooth as silk.
Since an ad serving extension has been created for using Vanilla with Google Adsense, I thought I’d tackle the YPN extension myself based on the code already available. It’s amazing how similair the YPN ad serving code to Google’s AdSense. It looks like they copied Google step for step, merely changing variable names along the way. I guess if it aint broke…
I’m still up in the air on which service provides better revenue. So far, the ads from AdSense appear much more relevant to the content — maybe because they have more advertisers. Word on the street is that YPN is paying more per click than Google, but we’ll see how long that lasts.
