For now though, Beta 2 won’t contain that feature. Sorry!
]]>Thanks!
]]>Just sent you an example of a clumsy experiment with tables instead of divs. Of course this is not the right way to do it (one table for one picture is awfull), and the layout is also not good. Anyway, even this could work, although it would involve making the thumbs max-size instead of max-height. If I new how to do this myself I could already go ‘hacking’ the code.
But I’m not :). I’m gonna wait for the next beta like I should. Still have a few hundred images to search through and adjust :).
]]>Sub-sub-categories: Unfortunately, Plogger was built as a quick and dirty script in its formative months, thus extending it to accomodate more levels of organization would involve restructuring the entire application. Not going to happen.
Subdirectories for each album: This has already been implemented in Beta2.
Plogger does not have to reside within the Wordpress directory, you can place it whereever you want on your server.
Text-links for sidebar: There will be a basic Plogger API that will have functions like this. I’ve got the one you mentioned coded already, we’ll see if I include it in Beta2.
Splitting the caption: We’re just going to keep it simple and have a single caption.
The CSS vs. Tables thumbnail issue: This is a thorny one, we are discussing the merits of each side right now. Luckily, since Plogger is released under a CC license, you can make these modifications yourself if you please.
]]>When choosing ‘title’ and ‘descending’ I found that in a page with 18 pictures, named ‘pic1.jpg’ through ‘pic18.jpg’, that the first picture becomes pic10, then pic1, then pics 9, 8, 7, etc. until pic 2 which is followed by pic 18 (???), and then pic 17, 16 etc. So something is wrong with the order. But perhaps you’ve already noticed that.
As to the vertical thumbs, I think it’s so ugly compared to the rest of plogger. I know it’s because the css would push away the horizontal thumbs. Tables would solve this. CSS is nicer, but you’re already using tables in the rest of the page, so why not for the thumbs? It would make the overall look better.
I’m gonna send you a screenshot by mail of how it would look in my site.
]]>But my Dutch is OK! :)
]]>Like I said I’ve played with it the whole morning, and these are the things I bumped into personally:
1. Fixed max thumbnail size, instead of max height or width, so in the case of a rectangular image 80×100 or 100×80 px. This way it can be centered better and perhaps through css made into a square (which holds that centered rectangular image)
2. When creating albums, perhaps also create a subdirectory in the imagedirectory so the images are kept together according to there album? Makes it easier to move and/or delete albums.
3. Does the plogger directory have to be inside the wordpress directory or can it ben put anywhere if used inside a wp-site?
4. Perhaps a text-list of links to the galleries, aside from the albumthumbs and the breadcrumbs? Or perhaps this could be made into a kind of plogger_list_cats() template tag, just like the the wp_list_cats()?
5. Splitting the caption into a title and a (short) description. The title could be underneath the thumbs (option), and the title+description could be in the next screen. Or as I would prefer in a popupwindow.
That’s it I think. Hope this is useable feedback.
Looking forward to the next beta. And if there are going to be support for multible languages? Send me an e-mail and I’ll translate it into Dutch.
Jack
]]>Sounds simple? But I haven’t seen those three combined in one single gallery, and I have looked at al lot! at hotscripts.com.
