It is day twenty-one of our long European backpacking adventure, and this is the first time I’ve had a moment to write here on my blog. We finally arrived by aircraft at Copenhagen airport yesterday night, jumped on the metro and headed out into a world full of strange Scandinavian symbols and words we couldn’t pronounce. Jacob, our gracious host, let us stay in his downtown apartment for the next few days while he showed us around this beautiful city. The standard of living here in Denmark is very high, everyone gets free university educations (they actually get paid to go to school), free health care, and one of the most solid public transportation infrastructures in the entire world.
Coincidentally, we arrived in Denmark on the very same day that President Bush decided to visit the country and everyone seemed really irritated. This is only the second time in the history of the United States that an American president came to see the Danish Prime Minister, the last time being with President Clinton. Military choppers flew ominously overhead as we toured the city, and we crossed path with a mob of angry protesters several times. The protesters were holding huge rain bowed flags with the words “peace” and “buck fush” displayed, shouting there mantras into the city streets. Although we are not Bush supporters ourselves, we couldn’t help but feel a bit defensive as an entire country seethed with hate toward our home land and our leader.
Back in the digital world, Plogger has been undergoing some amazing transformations thanks to the excellent work of Anti. The beta 2 release looks like it will be a solid improvement over the last package, with even more promise for the 1.0 release. I am looking forward to returning to the states and getting back into the project. Keep your eyes peeled!
