I just got home from the “day job” at the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, biking a mile in the rain and getting drenched in the process just to get home. Anyway, today I used the absence of my supervisor as an excuse to work on one of my commercial projects instead of what I was supposed to be doing.
I have had the same table-based, font-tag soup back-end for this project for about a year now. It just occured to me that perhaps I should practice what I preach and convert the whole damn thing to a lean and mean CSS and XHTML app. The process was not too difficult, I used a lot of the old PHP code (cleaned up a bit) and plugged it directly into the new interface.
I’m proud of this new creation, not only is it smaller and more standards compliant, it’s also kind of sexy. The icon set is Dan Cederholm’s Stockholm, the CSS tabs are created with an unordered list in combination with the Kalsey CSS tabs style from Listamatic, and the rounded drop shadow containers are created with the CSS ThrashBox from Ryan Thrash.
Altogether, it’s much cleaner and easier to use than the last one — hopefully my clients will like it!
