Urban Color Schemes

Designers find inspiration in the strangest places.

Recently I came across a little color scheme derivation trick at Adam Polselli’s design page that got those wheels spinning in my head again. The other night, while taking a midnight stroll through the neighborhood (yes, I take midnight strolls), I caught a glimpse of some interesting graffiti spray painted on the parked train cars. The way I see it, graffiti artists aren’t much different than creative marketing executives. Both are concerned with creating a unique, artistic representation of themselves, their company or their product. Creating a “buzz”. Being seen by as many people as possible. Can you guess which group gets paid for their efforts?

Anyway, what better place to find inspiration then from the under-appreciated graffiti artists whose pieces pass through town nightly?

Needless to say, I caught a few pics with my Canon Elph and whipped up a little thing in Fireworks … I present to you, Urban Color Schemes — straight from the trainyards of Minneapolis!
